Well after spending the last week researching and posting the information I’ve come across, I would like to just step back and reconsider everything that we’ve learnt and seen. Let’s start by reintroducing the purpose of this journey. The idea behind this journey was to explore the untold stories behind the of Jewish individuals that worked under Hitler during the second world war. While looking into these stories we dove into topics such as, why they worked for Hitler and how they worked for HItler, as to develop a better understanding of their stories. Looking back for instance we submerged ourselves in the story of Major Leo Skurnik, a Jewish man that enlisted himself into the Finnish army, which was allied with Nazi Germany at the time. While researching we asked the question, “Why would Leo join in the fight of world war two on the side of Hitler, when he was Jewish?”. This question caused us to dive deeper into Leo’s story and eventually drove us to an answer (pretty well he was scared of what the Nazis might do to him so he weighed his options and determined that if he were to pretend that he wasn’t Jewish by enlisting in the Finnish army he would have a good chance of survival). After we found out why Leo worked with/for Hitler we asked ourselves the question “How did he worked for/with Hitler?”. We discovered that Leo was a soldier of the front line for the Finnish army and that he actually fought alongside Nazi soldiers at times. We also discovered that he not only fought with Nazi soldiers but he actually ended up saving some too! Throughout our journey we did this same process (asking variations of those two driving questions) with other Jewish individuals such as, Chaje Meri Steinbock, Sissy Wein and Aron Livson in order to get to the root of their stories. Again looking back at the journey we just took part in, I find that the stories we covered really came to life and shared their knowledge and ideas with us. To be completely honest I never knew this chapter of World War Two existed, and as a matter of fact it reshaped my idea of how the Jewish people were involved with the war. I would just like to say that I’m so very glad that we could experience this learning curve together and I thank you all for your comments and suggestions.
Speaking of comments why don’t we share which story we liked the most out of them all? My favourite story had to be Wehrmacht Private Werner Goldberg’s story! The fact that he was Jewish and was posted as the ideal soldier of Germany blows my mind every time I think of it! So what was your favourite story of them all and why? Or do you know of another one that I never posted about?
